Title: Industrial use of biomass biorefinery projects at Fraunhofer CBP

Different strategies for industrial implementation

Bottom-up: Expansion of existing biomass processing facilities (e.g. sugar, starch, pulp mills, oil mills, ethanol plant)

Top-down: New conception for highly integrated systems into biorefineries for the complete utilization of the plant biomass (e.g. lignocellulosic or green feedstock).

Products:
Bio-based drop-in chemicals
Chemically identical bio-based versions of existing petrochemicals which have established markets

Smart drop-in chemicals
Chemically identical to existing chemicals based on fossil hydrocarbons, but their bio-based pathways provide advantages compared to the conventional pathway

Dedicated bio-based chemicals
Chemicals which are produced via a dedicated pathway and do not have an identical fossil-based counterpart
