font-size: 12pt;\">The first edition of the Green Rio event was held in 2012, when it was a side-event to Rio+20. In the course of five years, the event has consolidated its position as a platform for sustainable business, bringing together exhibitors, speakers and representatives of the green economy and the organic sector.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">On June 2, 3 and 4, 2016, the Marina da Gl\u00f3ria hosted the 5th edition of Green Rio.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Over 60 exhibitors, committed to healthy nutrition, sustainable production and bio-economy, received the 2,500 visitors who went to Green Rio 2016. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">During the three days of Green Rio 2016, business round tables were carried out. On the first day, in partnership with the Brazilian Association of Food and Beverage Exporters and Importers (ABBA), and with the participation of international buyers. On the second day, in partnership with the Rio Sustainable Food Initiative and catering firms that will take part in the Olympic Games; and on the third day, in partnership with the \u201cSebrae on the Podium\u201d program, which provided training for small and medium-size companies to work as suppliers for the 2016 Games. Damian Valenzuela (Argentina), Marc Diaz (Sebrae) and Thomas Schroeder (Germany) shared a common point in their presentations: the acknowledgement that Bio-economy is the Economy of the 21st century. Also within the Bio-economic area, Marcio Schittini spoke about Biogas, the current and potential scenario in Brazil. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">The NEXUS theme \u2013 Food-Water-Energy \u2013 was addressed by Jair Kotz (<strong>Cultivating Good Water \/Itaipu Binacional<\/strong>) and by Sabine Schlueter of the <strong>INTECRAL<\/strong> Project, which involves a partnership between the University of Cologne (Germany) and the Rio Rural program of the State of Rio de Janeiro Agriculture Secretariat.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-1225 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.greenrio.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/palestrantes1.jpg\" alt=\"palestrantes1\" width=\"600\" height=\"188\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.greenrio.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/palestrantes1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.greenrio.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/palestrantes1-300x94.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>SESC<\/strong> (Social Service for the Commercial Sector) contributed to Green Rio with MESA BRASIL (Brazil Table) workshops, addressing the full use of food, and promoted rounds of talks in its booth, which was crowded during the three days of the event, with an audience that was interested in learning more about food waste and healthy eating habits. The objective of the RJ Healthy School Meals project, promoted by Planeta Org\u00e2nico, Sebrae and Firjan (Rio de Janeiro Federation of Industry), is to contribute towards the health of children and young people in the Municipalities of the State of Rio de Janeiro by promoting local and regional development and healthy school food, thus benefiting small businesses involved in the food and beverage production chain. Five municipalities, 91 schools, over 400 school cooks and 30,271 pupils played an active role in the Heathy School Meals project.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Para\u00edba do Sul and Tr\u00eas Rios were the municipalities that stood out the most in the project\u2019s overall picture. Itaperuna was the town that achieved the greatest reduction in fat content and processed foods; Pinheiral\u2019s achievement was in reducing salt content, and Trajano de Moraes, in sugar. (Reginaldo Morikawa). <strong>The Promotion of the Value Chain of Differentiated Products<\/strong> was the theme addressed by SEBRAE\u2019s technical analyst, Luiz Rebelatto.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Brazil\u2019s Amazon region was present for the third time at the Green Rio event, with SEBRAE\u2019s Structuring Project <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>\u201cAmazon Forest-Based Cosmetics\u201d<\/strong><\/span>. Seven States in the Amazon region take part in this innovative project: Acre, Amazonas, Amap\u00e1, Par\u00e1, Rond\u00f4nia, Roraima and Tocantins.
